PM asks ministers to reach office by 9:30 am, avoid working from home | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked all ministers to try to reach office by 9:30 am and avoid working from home to set an example for others. Modi also suggested his colleagues not to plan any outside visit during the 40 days when Parliament is in session.
Citing his own example when he was Gujarat chief minister, Modi said he used to reach office by the time officers were in and that helped in setting the tasks for the day, a minister told TOI. PM chaired the first meeting of Council of Ministers after coming back to power.
He also asked senior ministers to hand-hold the new incumbents and also give time to meet the elected MPs since there is not much difference between a minister and an MP. Sources said Modi asked all ministers to spend a few minutes discussing latest developments in the ministry with the officials on a regular basis.
He has asked all ministries to come up with five-year agenda and to formulate an impactful decision, which needs to be taken in the first 100 days of the government.
Earlier, the Union Cabinet approved on Wednesday a bill to replace an ordinance issued in March 2019 which will pave way for higher education institutions to start appointment of 7,000 teachers taking the university/ college as one unit and restoring the earlier reservation system.
An official statement stated that “giving a major push to reforms in education sector, making it inclusive and keeping in mind the aspirations of the people from different categories, the Union Cabinet has approved the introduction of “the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Bill 2019”.
The decision will allow filling up of more than 7,000 existing vacancies by direct recruitment in teachers’ cadre with 200-point roster as well as ensure full representation of SC, ST and socially and educationally backward classes and economically weaker sections in direct recruitment of teachers’ cadre.
The appointments were on hold since March 2018, after the Allahabad High Court’s 2017 order asked the universities to treat departments and not the university as a unit for according reservations in teaching positions.
