Mamelodi Sundowns sign Lyle Lakay from Cape Town City

South African league champions Mamelodi Sundowns have completed the signing Lyle Lakay from Cape Town City, completing a four-year pursuit of the player by coach Pitso Mosimane.

Lakay has been signed to add squad depth and will provide cover in both the left-wing and left-back positions, an area that Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was keen to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Lakay was first touted for the role in November 2014 while he was at Bloemfontein Celtic and was unusually allowed to go on trial to Sundowns during the season.

But the clubs failed to agree a move in the January transfer window that followed and he instead remained in the Free State.

The move has been touted for some weeks and Mosimane has previously explained how he will use the 26-year-old, especially as leftback Tebogo Langerman has barely had stern competition for his position.

Lakay only joined City at the start of the 2017-18 season from Bloemfontein Celtic and featured in 28 of their 30 league matches as the side finished fifth.

He has also previously played in the PSL with SuperSport United and the now-defunct FC Cape Town, but saw the early part of his career stunted by injury.

Sundowns also announced earlier this week that they had signed young central defender Tristan Moses from Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve squad.
